Saturday

Saturday I was running a grappling tourney yesterday. Doing some reffing, some admin, some public relations. It was very successful, plenty of people. No one got hurt. There was some great matches and the overall atmosphere was very friendly, and fun.

I had to leave early to play cricket, but as I got ready to leave I noticed it was raining very hard. So I called the captain and asked if the game was washed out, and he said it was. Now as I wrote on Sunday I had been dealing with a bit of depression, and this really bummed me out. I love competition, and it helps me deal with things.

So I did the most logical thing...

I entered the absolute division (any weight classe any experience level, usually the toughest division) of the tourney. But I hadn't trained seriously in four months. I am not in grappling shape at all.

Well I had fun, won a few matches, and most of all got to get that adrenaline happening. I really feel much better. Man, if they sold adrenaline at McDonalds, I might have to go back after ten years. :)

Did ya puke after any matches?

yeah, how good is adrenaline?

I don't wrestle, I run (I've been known to take the mattress off my bed and stand it up against the wall so I can punch it, but that's more likely to cause injury since I don't know how to throw a punch *sigh*). Why do doctors tend to ask you whether you want a prescription, instead of suggesting you find a sport?

good for you, exercise is the best to combat depression - it gets everything going. unless you totally suck, competition is very good for the body and soul.

Cricket!?

God invented cricket, but did he really intend for us to believe that this is a sport? Could a Doctor really make the grave error of suggesting that we take up a hobby to get our adrenaline going?
I’m sure there are more suitable hobbies like Bec suggested picking up your mattress (like Jesus said) and kicking the crap out of it. Watch out for the old water bed though!

It may not be the most physical of sports, if it was I couldn't play, but it does get the adrenaline going when you are bowling to someone who has been knocking the ball over the rope. Or when you are facing some fast bowling.

Punching a matress up against the wall would probably result in broken hands for me. But I have bags at the gym and give them a good rap now and then.

Reminds me of the following Jack Handy deep thought:

"The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called 'Dad.' We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you."
